Ok, what is up with all the TV show ripoffs?
Every time I turn on the tube, I see several new shows that are just ripping off the originals. For example, Ace of Cakes has been a huge success on The Food Network. Now, TLC has the Cake Boss. Why? What’s wrong with them trying to be unique? Couldn’t they at least have tried to take a spin off the original show by having it about a woman pastry chef? Or about a man who makes pies instead?
Next is John and Kate Plus Eight. Everyone on the planet knows who they are even if you haven’t watched the show. Now, with them in relationship trouble, we bring out WeTV’s Raising Sextuplets. WHY?? Why must we endure another show about raising more than one baby at a time? Isn’t Kate punishment enough?
All this makes me thankful that HR is not like a TV network. There isn’t someone in my department lurking around trying to be the new and improved Trisha. No, we’re all unique. We all bring different HR skills to the table and that is what makes our department valuable to our company. There are those who are outgoing, reserved, quiet, funny, and sweet. All smart, all talented, all successful.
What about where you work? Is there uniqueness, or is everyone just a clone?
Let me know.

We definitely have our unique skills here. And in a nonprofit organization, it’s a bit different than a “normal” work environment. But I love it and wouldn’t take anything for the atmosphere and my coworkers. 🙂
And reality TV must die.
