Back in August, I wrote a post about Yammer called ‘HR Guide to Using Yammer‘. I decided to try using Yammer in my human resources department with a handful of people. I was hoping to learn whether people would use it and if not, what the barriers were.
I began by asking each person to participate so that I would have a group willing to try it with me. We all signed up and began to use it. It was slow to catch on, even with a group of people who agreed to try it. After a few weeks, we had abandoned it altogether.
Fast forward to November. Following a training course offered to some of the employees, more employees began to sign up for Yammer. Now, I see that the interest is starting to pick up. I don’t see that it is being used for “work” much yet, but I think people are still in the networking/getting to know each other phase.
I’m curious, do you use Yammer? What are the pros and cons? Please leave a comment with your opinion and/or any tips on using Yammer successfully.
Thanks.

I came across Yammer about a month ago and I posed the same sort of questions to the LinkIn “Social Media and HR” group. Here is the link to discussion thread: http://bit.ly/92hpMg. I also asked our Public Affairs intern to check this out since she has been instrumental in researching Social Media for us. She is a proponent of Social Media in the workplace but expressed concerns that it might not be used enough for real work.
